The rooms had plenty of room in them for all the different activities the children had available to play with. They had a painting area with a board to clip the art work on with a lip for markers. The treatment and prevention of childhood obesity are considered the responsibility of individual children and their parents. Parents of obese children are left in a difficult position of fearing for the social and health consequences of their child’s obesity, and fighting a losing battle against the powerful presence of the media and constant exposure to unhealthy foods. It has been said that breastfeeding protects children from being obese or overweight; many people believe that â€Å"establishing healthy dietary behaviors must begin early in childhood. Mothers need education and support in healthy feeding and mealtime practices as part of a multi strategy response that targets early feeding as one potentially modifiable approach† (Horodynski, Baker, Coleman, Auld, Lindau, 2011, p. 582. ) Whether breastfeeding is protecting against the increase of children who are overweight and obese remains a topic of dispute. Although a number of evidence indicates that breastfeeding lowers the risk of obesity, these results are by no means final. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2012) states, in the United States, while 75% of mothers start out breastfeeding, only 13% of babies are exclusively breastfed at the end of 6 months. Does that mean that at the age of 6 months children are already falling into the category of being overweight? Many studies have been done, one in particular where â€Å"nearly 300,000 participants, showed that breastfeeding consistently reduced risks for overweight and obesity. The greatest protection is seen when breastfeeding is exclusive (no formula or solid foods) and continues for more than three months† (California WIC Association, 2006, p. 2. ) The California WIC Association states that there are several possible reasons for the protective effect of breastfeeding against obesity, they are: ? Breastfed infants may be better at self-regulating their intake. Mothers can’t see how much milk their child is drinking, so they must rely on their infant’s behavior, not an empty bottle, to signal when their infant is full. Thus, breastfed babies might be better able to eat only as much as they need. Breastfed infants are more likely than formula-fed infants to try and to accept new foods. Acceptance of new foods is important because a healthy diet should include a wide variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables. Because breast milk contains flavors from foods eaten by the mother, breastfed infants are exposed to a variety of tastes very early in life. In contrast, infant formula always tastes the same. ? Breastfeeding has different effects than formula feeding on infants’ metabolism and on hormones such as insulin, which tells the body to store fat. Formula-fed infants tend to be fatter than breastfed infants at 12 months of age. Other studies have shown that breast milk is more digestible then formula and that is why breastfeeding is better. According to Eiger (1999), in recent year’s nutritionists have voiced concern about overly high levels of protein in the American diet. Since cow’s milk contains about twice as much protein as human milk, formula-fed babies usually receive more protein than they need (much of it in the form of the less digestible casein). The stools of formula-fed babies are so bulky because the babies cannot absorb so much protein, and excrete the excess in their stool, whereas breast-fed babies absorb virtually 100% of the protein in human milk. According to the CDC, â€Å" reports that the percentage of young people in the U. S. considered overweight has more than tripled since 1980. There has been a corresponding rise in the incidence of type 2 diabetes, a disease linked to overweight and obesity and once seen only rarely in children and teens. It is now widely accepted that being breastfed elps protect babies from becoming overweight or obese later in life† (WEBMD, 2006, para. 5. ) Although there have been several researches and studies done, there is still no proof that breastfeeding can help reduce the risk of childhood obesity. A year later more research was done with roughly 35,000 participants. The conclusion to that research was that there was no link at all to breastfeeding and childhood obesity. Al though breastfeeding protects a child from many things very early in life, it does not seem to protect against obesity through adolescence to adulthood. Boyels (2007) states that breastfeeding is certainly encouraged, and has many positive consequences for both mother and child. But it should not be promoted as a solution for either the childhood or adult obesity epidemic. Because of the lack of information linking breastfeeding to obesity, it is now said that the cause for obese and overweight children is lack of physical activity, lack of healthy foods in schools, advertising of unhealthy foods on television and billboards, limited access to healthy affordable foods, and limited access to safe places for children to play. Childhood obesity became a very important issue many years ago when the number of obese children rose. It has been said that, â€Å"among children and adolescents ages 2 to 19, obesity tripled between 1980 and 2002 and more currently when First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled the White House Child Obesity Task Force action plan: Solving the Problem of Childhood Obesity Within a Generation. In the view of most doctors, these statistics are cause for concern because obesity is generally associated with increased risks for many diseases as well as premature death† (â€Å"Obesity Epidemic†, 2010, para. . ) All of these health risks can be avoided if parents would communicate with their children about what they should and should not be eating. Children learn from their parents about what to eat and why it is important to eat certain foods. Breastfeeding is important to form a bond between mother and child, there have been many studies done to try and prove that breastfeeding a baby will help reduce the risk of obesity but all have come up with different results. There are several solutions to this epidemic, parent need to talk with their children about what foods are good foods and what bad foods are, fruits are always a good choice and something that children love. Allot all children to a certain amount of TV time, 1 to 2 hours max, too much television is bad and allows them to just sit around doing nothing. Allow children to run around and play, inside or outside, exercise is a good thing. Many children do not get enough exercise which contributes to obesity. Look into healthier foods at schools and child care centers. This is where children spend a majority of their time. It is important that they have good, healthy foods to choose from. Lastly give children water instead of sugary drinks. Along with the recommendation previously listed and many listed online, there are many ways to help with the prevention of obesity. Berg (2004) stated that the seven sound and simple guidelines for raising healthy weight children are: 1. Normalize activity 2. Normalize eating 3. Balance sound nutrition 4. Feel good about oneself 5. Communicate feelings 6. Feel good about others . This task becomes even more difficult if the child is suffering from the emotional or behavioral disorder. Normal child care homes provide the care for normal children, children who are different from the rest need extra attention for every work, at times, and child care homes are not able to provide this extra care. These children even need extra care from the parents, in such a situation; it becomes difficult for both the parents to work as the child may need the parents at the time of emergency (Access to Child Care for C hildren with Emotional or Behavioral Challenges: An Essential Element of Family Support, 2015). Purpose Statement The purpose of this study is to determine the employment-related problems that that the parents in US face to get child care. In addition to this, this study will be conducted to determine whether parents with children having emotional and behavioral disorder face employment-related problems and how the parents deal with the children while assigning a child care for the children (Bakken, Obiakor Rotatori, 2012). Participants To carry out this study appropriately, 60 families were interviewed. The families include either single parent, or both parents working or one parent working and another parent are staying at home. The families also include at least one child with the emotional or behavioral disorder. In some families, the child has a sibling, and in some families the child is a single child (Bee Boyd, 2013). In addition to this, certain child care centers were interviewed to determine the problems the staffs face if the child is suffering from emotional and behavioral disorders and how frequent the staffs needs to consult the parents of the child depending on the need of emergency. Materials And Procedures As stated earlier, 60 families and five child care centers are interviewed with questionnaires. Questions like, how difficult was it for the parents to find a child care for the wards, how the behavior of the child affected the work, is the organization the parents are working supportively, is the child care center where the child goes can take proper care of the child, are asked to the parents to determine the employment-related problems the parents are facing when it comes to taking good care of the child (Blake, 2011). Variables The behavior of the child and how the child is reacting to various situations and environments is taken as the main variable in this study, as the behavior and welfare of the child is the utmost concern of the parent that affects work. The work pressure of the parents can also be taken as the second variable, as the work pressure might affect child care. Data Analysis Plan Problems faced by the parents with the child The families with the special children face a lot of problems while providing good care to the children. The parents have to arrange for the transportation of the children to school, attend to emergencies and medical crisis, make the school authorities fully aware of the childs special needs, and the most important one, to find a good day care for the child (Gerdes, 2010). Problems faced by the parents at work Children with behavioral disorder and both the parents working require child care the most. However, the child cares at times are not well equipped to take care of the special child, and hence the organizations need to consult the parents (GuÃÅ'ˆnter Hasenclever, 2011). The working parents have to attend the child before the work; as a result, it affects the work front. Many parents have to give up work tours to be with the child while the other parent is not at the town. The problems with the child even hampered the career growth as the parent are not able to take up any challenging work in the office, as it will require complete dedication that is not possible in this case (M. Brennan, H. Caplan Ama, 2015). Single parents even have greater problems than the families with both mother and father. These parents totally depend upon the child care centers. These parents try to find a job that is nearer to the home and the child care center so that the child can be attended whenever needed. The parents even settle for the low-income job that will require less time at the office as well as more time for the child (Mash Wolfe, 2010). Data Analysis The study showed that out of the 60 families, 96% of the families have faced the employment related problem. Out of the families interviewed, 47% of the families have reported that either of the parents has to leave the job unable to meet the work pressure or to take care of the child. Out those 47%, it was found in most of the case it is the mother who has to leave the job. Out of the 60 families, 30% of the families have two children, mostly the elder one is a normal while, the younger one is with the disorder. The remaining 70% did not think of having a second issue because the first child needs the complete care of the parents. The centers have also admitted that these children behave differently in different situations, and the staffs have to contact the parents when the situation gets out of the hands (Palmer, 2011). Conclusion Thus, it is concluded, that parents with children with the behavioral disorder face a huge amount of pressure to find a good child care for the kid as well as face a lot of problems at work (LeCroy, 2011). Paradise Lost Vs Genesis Theology Religion Essay Unlike the Biblical account of the fall in the Book of Genesis, with his epic poem, Paradise Lost, John Milton adds a lot of detail about the complete story of Man, the beginning of Satan, his rise and Mans Fall. Although the ideas for Paradise Lost came from a few pages in the Book of Genesis, Miltons account kept readers wondering what was going to happen next. Because he was going against the church already with Paradise Lost, it was more intriguing for him to take the same ideas in the Bible and extend them into more detail, making Satan look like the Hero and succeeding at what he wanted to do. Satan the perfect angel banished from nothing to the pits of Hell, with no chance of return, conjures up a plan to get revenge, building a legacy and an army to overthrow those who put him there. God created the Son, the angels, Man, Heaven, Earth and everything else. Milton faced a difficult task with creating tension about would happen since God already knew. In Paradise Lost, God is al most emotionless or aloof; he embodies pure reason and pure justice, and every response he gives seems to be cold. In Genesis God is wise and known as the creator and is more the narrator of what is happening than in Miltons epic. Also He is referred to as Lord God, instead of God, like Milton refers to Him. My thesis is: While the Book of Genesis portrays Satan as an evil antagonist, Miltons Paradise Lost presents him as a more sympathetic character. Perhaps not a hero, but an anti-hero. An anti-hero is someone who lacks the attributes of a hero, such as courage or being morally good. In some ways, Milton presents Satan as a modern Prometheus. Prometheus was a Greek God, who at any cost gave fire to humans; just as it can be argued that, at an even greater cost, Satan gave knowledge to humans. An example of an anti-hero in popular culture would be Samuel L. Jacksons character in the film Pulp Fiction. His character quotes the Bible to ju stify his occupation as a hit man, The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. [Jeremiah]. In summary, I am comparing Miltons story of Paradise with the Bibles story of the Garden of Eden. Paradise Lost begins with a prologue by Milton which states his purpose and an epic description of Satan who is depicted on his back with the other rebellious angels chained to the lake of fire. Genesis starts out saying In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, And God said, Let there be light and there was light and God separated the light from the dark (Genesis). Milton depicts God as a being who you can converse with, as if He was an angel, and no higher than anyone else not even Satan. Before the rebellion, Satan was formerly known as Lucifer; he had been the greatest angel and second only to God. The other angels who revolted against God were defeated and cast down from Heaven into the fires of Hell with Satan. Hell is the place Justice made for those who rebel against God (www.clifnotes.com). For nine days, Satan and his followers were lying helpless in the fires of Hell, until Satan grew angry, thinking about all the pleasures he had missed and his unending pai n. In Book One of Paradise Lost Satan is speaking, as if he has free will. Satan is portrayed as this huge angel who rose up against God in jealousy towards Gods son and is now a leader who is frustrated with the limits put on him. Through pain and despair Satan speaks, he talks to Beelzebub and his followers he talks about a new way to get revenge and talks about a prophecy of a new world where demons and evil are welcome, And revenge on Gods creation (www.paradiselost.org). Satan then awakens all his legions and chiefs leaders to rise in numbers, he gives a speech that comforts them with hope of regaining heaven and lastly tells them of a new world. So they build a kingdom known as Pandemonium and create a council. Satan takes on the voyage to go to Gods creation, but he encounters his offspring, Sin and Death, guarding the gates of hell. His daughter Sin unlocks the gate and Satan continues his journey across the great gulf of chaos between heaven and hell which ends Book Two. Her name is Eve because she was the mother of all living. In Paradise Lost, Eve is created from Adams rib as his helper to maintain the Garden of Eden. Before the Fall, Eve was created to serve man. But Sin was created to help destroy man. Eve was presented as submissive to Adam and to an extent dependent on him. Their births are both from the body of who they are serving and yet both books go into depth about only one of how they came to be; Eve from the book of Genesis and Sin from Paradise Lost light vs. dark. Milton adds a lot of imagery to the relationship between Sin and Satan, which ultim ately ends with the incestuous birth of Death. But Adam and Eve offspring, Cain and Abel, do not come until after the Fall of man and they are barely mentioned in Paradise Lost. In book three of Paradise Lost God sees Satan flying towards Earth and foretells the success of his evil mission to tempt man. God then explains his purpose to his son of grace and mercy towards man, but declares justice must be met (www.paradiselost.org). To get into Gods creation, the Garden of Eden, Satan disguises himself as a cherub. Satan then pretends he has come to praise Gods new creation and tricks an angel into showing him the way to the creation of mans home. Satan enters and lands on Mt. The Garden of Eden was protected on all sides by high walls of trees and plants. Satan gets past the walls, finds Adam and Eve, and all the animals playing peacefully and lying lazily beside them(www.gradesaver.com). Satan is speechless as he sees this beauty and the continuous joy of Adam and Eve. He ov erhears them talk about Gods commandment, not to eat from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil. Satan plans to change that and cause them to transgress. The sight of Adam and Eves joy and love crushes Satan, so he takes this opportunity to whisper to Eve what she was looking at and tell her she was the most beautiful thing he had ever saw. This is the start of the Fall of Man. Eve then thinks about the moments of her creation as she walks to the lake to get water. There she sees her reflection. Eve then sees Adam and notices he wasnt as beautiful as her in the reflection (www.paradiselost.org). Gods angels take notice that there is an intruder in the Garden, and Satan faces Gabriel. Before they engage in battle. Gabriel, one of Gods angels, tells him to look up at the stars to see how you are weighted (www.cliffnotes.com). It is clear to Satan that he will not win, so he leaves on his own accord. Later, God sends another one of his angels named Raphael to warn Adam and Eve about Satan. Raphael tells them how Satan was cast down, and how the world was created so mankind could one day replace the fallen angels in heaven. Satan then sneaks back into the Garden of Eden, disguised as a serpent. Finding Eve alone he induces her to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree. In Paradise Lost, Satan circled the Earth seven continuous nights, staying on the dark side of earth. On the eighth night he found a secret way into the garden. But in Genesis it summarizes the creation of man and earth as done in seven days. Clearly Milton tries to keep the idea of something significant happening in seven days, whether it is Satan sneaking back or the creation of Man and earth. There is an implied idea that Eve understands her position in the hierarchical arrangement that her and Adam share, which leads me to think that when she sees her reflection, and compares it to Adam, she doesnt understand why she is beneath him if she is physically more beautiful than Adam, which than adds her insight for why and Satan fuels that. But in the Book of Genesis it refers to Satan as the serpent and how Adam and Eve are tempted by him. But it is unclear how the serpent came to be evil. Not in Genesis, but other parts of the Bible, the writers refer to the serpent as being a representation of Satan. In Genesis the serpent is craftier than any other beast in the Garden (Genesis). Satan said to the woman Did God actually say, you shall not eat of any tree in the Garden (Genesis)? In Paradise Los t we know Satan deceived her, but what exactly did he say? We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden, says Eve in the Book of Genesis. The serpent told the woman you will not surely die for God knows when you eat it, your eyes will surely be opened and you will be like God knowing good and evil (Genesis). The woman then saw the tree as good food and with her desire to make one wise she took its fruit and ate and gave some to her husband Adam (www.cliffnotes.com). During this event, in the book of Genesis, Adam is said to be with her as she ate. After they ate, their eyes were opened and they knew they were naked. According to Miltons Paradise Lost, after Eve eats the fruit from the tree, she immediately changes. She thinks of ways of becoming equal to Adam or even his superior. But fearful of losing Adam to another female creation, she decides that he must eat the fruit also. Adam does so willingly, in fear of losing Eve. Milton presents a story and adds a swing more like a small drama of love between the two in order not to lose each other. In Genesis, after the fruit is eaten, the story jumps directly into the sound of the Lord God walking in the Garden in the cool of the day of man(Genesis). Not knowing what has happened until man confesses what has happened, the Bible story blames the serpent for Eves deception. In Miltons version, God already knows what has happened, and man runs and hides. When they hear Gods voice, they still hide. Then, right before God is about to pass judgment on man, He gives the reasons why in the Book of Genesis and also states what Man will suffer after being banished.
